•Aunt Flo•

Alright so here’s my warning, this is a TMI-ish post. If you’re a guy and reading this post, you’ll probably want to skip it, so scroll on my friends ha. I’m about to talk a taboo girly thing that boys tend to shy away from. Like tampons.

Okay. So you’re all gone, right? Last warning!

Alright then.

There are so many things I didn’t realize until after I had a baby. Like, I never knew breastfeeding could postpone your cycle. And when I say postpone, I mean I literally can’t remember the last time I had a period ha. I mean I guess I know when, about one month before I got pregnant with Waylen so a longgggg time ago. Now “they” say pretty much anything goes when it comes to getting your cycle back. “They” also say that exclusively breastfeeding is like 98% accurate at preventing pregnancy for the first 6 months or something like that so I didn’t really expect it to come back right away. (And who really is this “they” anyways??? Ha)

Now I normally wouldn’t complain about not having a period ha buttttttt because Chappy and I are thinking about trying for a second soonish, it is something that is on my mind.

So here we go, this is what I’ve done so far to jump start ovulation… at 6 months Waylen started sleeping through the night. One of the first things recommended to do is night wean so I was hoping that would work but nope. Next I read to go 3-4 hours between feedings during the day. Now Waylen is my little piggy so until recently he was eating every 1.5-2 hours, luckily its every 3-4 hours now, but still nothing!
Now let’s think this through, breastfeeding takes a lot of extra calories, and when you workout too much or don’t eat enough you can lose your period. Why? Because you’re not getting enough calories. (Not the entireee reason but still) Sooo kind of along those lines I’ve decided to up my calories. Got to sustain myself, then my milk, and then hopefully my ovulation! But what else?!? I feel like nothing is working! And I’m not about to completely wean yet so don’t suggest that as an option! Feeding my little babe takes #1 priority but if anyone has any suggestions that worked for them my ears are open!

We want baby number 2 sooner than later but it’s a little hard when you’re not ovulating! Ughhh so please send me all your advice!

Thank you!  💛

  1. For me it took a while, I believe it was around a year. I breastfed to 21 months. One thing I did do that may have been coincidence is use a blend of essential oils called ClaryCalm(DōTERRA) as my deodorant daily. It’s great for helping to regulate and normalize your hormones. My period was back like in a month. Later I talked with a local Ayurvedic Wellness Counselor and yoga teacher well respected in our community and she suggested an herbal blend because my period was not completely regular. One month after taking those I became pregnant with our 2nd child(currently in the womb). Happy to chat and give names of my resources.
